Paediatric Hearing Assessments

With developments in hearing testing, the majority of significant hearing losses in children are detected in infancy. However, children are more susceptible to a temporary condition which is often the result of some eustachian tube dysfunction - this is more commonly referred to as ‘glue ear’.

Glue ear can cause a build-up of fluid behind the eardrum, which can make sounds seem very dull and muffled. It can occur after a cold, cough or ear infection and although it is usually temporary, it can result in fluctuating hearing levels. Prolonged episodes can result in your child falling behind with their learning and development.

If you have any concerns about your child’s hearing, discussing it with your GP is a good place to start as they can refer you to ENT for medical opinion. However, we are able to help by providing quick and easy access to individual assessments for children aged 4 and upwards.
